Description
The silky, delicious, and mild flavour of blue oyster mushrooms complements just about any recipe. At North Spore, blue oysters are frequently served (going all the way back to when we began as an urban farm.) Our blue oyster kits have been refined over the years, and as a result, they are now among the simplest kits to obtain repeated fruitings from and ought to yield a second flush of mushrooms (or more!)
A product called the Blue Oyster “Spray & Grow” Mushroom Growing Kit is made to enable consumers to cultivate their own fresh mushrooms at home. The kit comes with everything you need to grow mushrooms, including a bag of sterilised sawdust substrate that has been inoculated with mushroom spawn, a spray bottle for misting the substrate, and instructions for caring for and harvesting the mushrooms.
Simply sprinkle the substrate with water a few times per day and keep it in a cool, dark spot to use the kit. Mushrooms will begin to grow after the mycelium has had time to colonise the substrate. A variety of edible fungus with a mild, slightly sweet flavour that is frequently used in Asian cooking is the blue oyster mushroom.
This kit’s ease of use and lack of prerequisite mushroom cultivation knowledge are two advantages. The kit is additionally made to produce numerous flushes of mushrooms over a period of several weeks, allowing you to have a consistent supply of fresh mushrooms.
The cultivation of mushrooms can be susceptible to environmental factors, therefore it is crucial to take the necessary precautions to ensure a successful harvest. As a result, it is advised that you thoroughly read the instructions included with the kit and seek out other sources as necessary.
Directions
1) This box contains a block of modified sawdust that has been totally colonised by mycelium from mushrooms. Remove the cardboard that is still inside the front of your kit by opening it along the perforated line.
2) Using a knife or pair of scissors that are sharp, cut a “X” into the plastic underneath.
3) Open up the top of the box to reveal the sprayer and manual. Spray the plastic where you cut your “X” with a liberal amount of water from the sprayer after filling it with tap water. Spray your gear at least twice each day; more frequently if you’re in an especially dry environment. Make a humidity tent if your growing circumstances are too dry if your mushrooms start to grow but then dry up and perish.
4) Keep your kit away from direct sunlight and in the moistest area of your house. We advise positioning it near a sink on a kitchen counter. Mushroom “pins,” sometimes known as “baby mushrooms,” are created when the mushroom mycelium detects the presence of oxygen in the air.
5) Pins often form in 5 to 14 days. Mushrooms grow rapidly after pins start to form. Keep an eye on your first pins when you find them. They will grow more quickly in a warmer atmosphere. After pin creation, the mushrooms should be ready for harvesting in 2 to 5 days.
Storing
Your Blue Oyster Spray & Grow Kit can be kept chilled or kept in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight for up to three months if you’re not ready to use it right away.
